Many times, local elected officials decisions have a greater effect on your day-to-day life than decisions made by state and federal elected officials.  Voter turnout is light in local elections and qualified candidates are hard to find.  If you know of any qualified candidates, encourage them to run for office.  Please, consider running yourself.  Following is a pre-filing notice that was sent to Freeburg Tribune for publication by Paula Allard, Village Clerk, in compliance with state election laws.

Notice is hereby given that the Office of Village Clerk for the Village of New Athens, 905 Spotsylvania Street, New Athens, Illinois, will be distributing candidate petitions for the Consolidated Election to be held on April 1, 2025, for the following offices:

                                                                             Mayor (4-year term)

Board of Trustees (4-year term/ 3 to be elected)

The first day to circulate petitions is Tuesday, August 20, 2024.  Filing dates are November 12, 2024, through November 18, 2024, by 5:00 pm. Village Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
