DO NOT DISPOSE OF LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES IN TRASH TOTS
Due to the flammability of lithium-ion batteries, Illinois EPA prohibits the disposal of all "lithium-ion" batteries in sanitary landfills and recycling facilities. Lithium-ion batteries or those contained in electronic devices should be recycled at certified battery electronics recyclers that except batteries rather than being discarded in the trash or put in municipal recycling bins
Often Lowe's and Home Depot stores accept lithium-ion batteries for recycling. Additional resources are the "Earth911" database and "Call2recycle".
