Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Races
I was honored to be chosen as a Judge for the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Races held January 28th. New Athens Police Officer Jeremiah Schultz was a fellow judge. I am glad I was not the only judge because the judging criteria was complicated with thirteen separate categories along with a Judges Choice Overall. Officer Schultz is a model community police officer and I am proud to have him as one of ours. He indicated he chose our community because of the excellent reputation of the New Athens Police Department.
The race vehicles, made from a block of pinewood, painted and weighted were raced on a long track. The parents and grandparents, etc. assist with the construction of the vehicles. Trophies are awarded to the winners. It was a great event.
